A tale of two tubs

So the bathtubs arrived yesterday. I took pictures and just assumed they were the correct ones. Never really checking the size or boxes. My boyfriend, on the other hand, was eagle eyed when he visited the house this morning.

We payed just over $1200 to reframe and rotate the basement bath to accommodate a 66" soaker tub for my boyfriend. It was our compromise as he wanted a tub in the master bath. I preferred the deluxe shower and its plan layout.

Well the boxes in the garage both say 5' tub. They were trying to install the standard tub in our hall bath and the basement as well. He sent an email to JP first thing this morning.

While I visited I was able to meet up with him. He was going over to check on it. Well, he made fast work of it. We stopped by this evening and two brand new boxes sat in the garage. The previous two tubs had disappeared. Now I'm not sure if either tub was really the right one. I'm just glad it hasn't delayed things too much.

Moral of the story:  Check and recheck everything as often as you can. Imagine the delay had they installed the wrong tubs.

Shopapalooza

We took advantage of the Memorial Day sale at Lowes today. Which was a good thing as some of our items are special order out of Korea and will take over 40 days to be shipped.

We purchased a slide-in range, refrigerator, washer and dryer. With the sale and our military discount we spent about $4500.

Then we stopped by Morris Home furniture. Their sale was a 50% off. We purchased a bed for Zoe. A bed and dresser for AJ.  We also bought a sofa and loveseat for the great room. All of this for about $5100.

Unfortunately our current sectional faces the wrong way for our new great room. We will relocate it to the kids loft.

We set the delivery date for July 3rd. It may have been a bit optimistic. Though we can push it back if necessary.  So JP if you're watching...  7/3/15 is the goal.

Plumbers everywhere

There were 5 plumbers at the house today. They are getting serious. The electricians, guardian and HVAC are done.

We meet with JP on Thursday. My boyfriend basically scheduled his own pre-drywall meeting, before the pre-drywall meeting. I guess I need to start writing down my notes and questions.

At the house today:

The kids bathtub

The extra long soaker tub for the basement bath

It looks like the plumbers are checking the pressure in their lines. This was in the laundry room upstairs.

The installed the basement windows

It's raining today. There was a puddle in my bedroom.

It looks like there is some sort of vent or something this piping leads to up there. I'm wondering how they seal it off to prevent leaks.

We have packed most everything we can, for now.

We also emptied the shed and stacked it into the garage. If I had to guess, I'd say we have about 7 weeks to go.

Making it our own

I follow a lot of new construction blogs and love the ideas and tips from them.

One such idea was to place quotes, your name or whatever else to the framing of your home to kind of tag it as your own. I just loved the idea and we are finally at the stage where we can do that.

Little Miss Zoe chose the bedroom at the front of the house because she liked it in the model home. Now that our house is built she's starting to regret her decision. I can't blame her. The view out the back is amazing.

There's a lot of stuff in my walls

More electric, more plumbing... new things to see every time I visit.

The garage doors were down this time so I actually had to enter through my front door for the first time. Once they put the knobs and locks on we'll be locked out. Then I'll have to get the key from Susan when she's at her office.

The outdoor light with instructions

The cable hookups over the TV. They pop back up in the corner where we'll keep the electronics.

Recessed lights in the corners of the master tray ceiling.

I couldn't figure out what this box was in the ceiling of our closet. Then it hit me... It's the access to the attic.

I couldn't figure out why they would put an outlet or switch up this high. Then I realized it was for the smoke / CO detector.

Drains started for the master bath vanities

Laundry plumbing started.

Basement bathroom

I still have no clue what these are for in the ceiling. Any ideas?

Still not sure what these are for next to the hvac. We added a water softener rough in. Though I have no idea what one would look like.

Where all the house wiring meets in our basement.

I love reading all the instructions for switches on the walls.

Though I wonder what we need someone's phone number for...  Lol

Guardian, Electric and Plumbing continue

It looks like Guardian came through and pre-wired.

They located their box in our basement closet.

The intercom on our front porch.

Long electric was there once again. I think they are about finished up. They were cleaning up after themselves, which was nice to see.

Wiring for our outdoor lights popping through.

The plumbers are at the house working.

The sump pump

They had the 3rd bay garage down.  It's an 8 X 8 door.

I was able to meet with JP at the house. He marked my laundry closet to get it fixed. We asked to get a rough estimate on a closing date. He told me to give him one week and he'd get it to us. He is also looking into adding an additional heating vent to our basement, as there is only one.  Once the subcontractors are done he will do a final walk through to get any issues fixed.

Indents on the side of the house for the brick wrap around.

Cathy and Johns back lawn seems to be coming in nicely. One of those things I worry about.
