Closet systems

 My boyfriend has been pricing and researching closet systems for a while now. He found the one he liked and this weekend we picked up the pieces. 

It took a few miles on the truck and three different Menard's to get everything we needed.

We spent about $800. Menard's is giving an 11% rebate right now on all purchases. So after we mail it in, we can expect about $80 in 6-8 weeks. lol

On the way home we stopped by the house. It looks like the heating guys are just about done. The main levels are done, they just have to finish the basement.

Our home went through 2 framing inspections. One with the county and the other Inverness Construction Manager. I am assuming we had issues with one of them because we have all kinds of new bolts into the foundation around the house.

Granite and Ductwork

We drove down through the awful Cincinnati traffic to Sims-Lohman. You can make appointments Monday through Friday 8-5. 

We were led into a huge warehouse of granite. Each piece marked with its price level. There was no rhyme or reason to the layout. Our Caledonia was found in several places.

We were told we could pick caledonia or select anything else we wanted. So we browsed every aisle looking for something that caught our eye. Nothing seemed to be right except for the caledonia. 

We found two slabs and slapped our tags on them.  They put the date 6-15 on it. I'm assuming that's the estimated date to cut it and ship it.   They will come to the house and make a template, cut it at the warehouse and deliver it to the site. 

We asked them about cutting it to fit the slide-in range we are putting in after closing. They seemed to know exactly how it needed to be cut. Susan is going to send them the specs. 

Our discussed schedule has been set back. The heating guys came today, though it was originally scheduled for last Monday. The electricians are coming Monday, though that was supposed to be Guardian.

The stairs are in!!  I climbed to the top floor, then down to the basement. 

I'm a very happy girl. I am definitely setting aside time tomorrow to explore the house.

Long Electric

We are very lucky to have Long Electric working on our house. If you are building with Inverness, see if your development has Long. 

During our contract negotiations we added a few dedicated outlets for $250 a pop. If you wait and add them with the electrician, it's $100. Non-dedicated are only $25. 

Changing placement of switches and raising outlets to 5ft for mounting was all free of charge. 

We worked with Pam and she was awesome. We were able to get everything we wanted. It was a very productive and pleasant meeting. 

All Closed In

The windows and doors were installed today. It looks like they still have two windows left to put up. Then eventually the garage door. 

Tomorrow morning we have our meeting with the electrician. We have a few items for him. 

     - putting an outlet over the fireplace 

     - adding and outlet in the back for a hot tub 

     - adding an outlet to the master closet

     - putting a 220v in the basement 

     - placement of the garage lights

     - placement of additional outlets in the garage and basement

     - adding floodlights

     - adding an additional outlet in the loft

     - placement of kitchen switches

The placement of switches in the model homes kitchen makes no sense to me.  I would have to take a couple steps away from the sink to turn on the garbage disposal. I would have to go to one side of the kitchen to turn on the 5 main recessed lights. The other side of the doorway to turn on the light over the sink. Then the other side of the peninsula to turn on the lights over the peninsula. It's very annoying. If you have the chance to visit your model, pay attention to switch placement. 

We are very lucky to get to work directly with the electrician. We can pay out of pocket for any additional changes.

It's also time to schedule our appointment to go pick out our granite slab. I am really looking forward to this appointment. You can opt out of it and let them choose, but who wants to do that?

Doors and windows

I love finding stuff stashed in our new garage. 

The windows came in. 

And so did the doors.  Though I think they are trying to freak me out. 

These are the doors in my garage. 

Those are the sidelites I ordered, but not the door. 

Then I read the sticker on the side. 

"SHIP WITH DUMMY PANEL"

They are shipped with a dummy panel over the glass door to protect it. The other side of the door actually has the word "dummy" with a smiley face written on the other side of it. They can keep the panel on till we're ready to move in, as far as I'm concerned. One less pane of glass to worry about.

Wonderful Neighbors.

We were finally able to meet Cathy and John. Their U-haul was in the driveway and we took our chance. I brought over their house warming gift.

They are a really wonderful couple. It's going to be so nice to be surrounded by friendly neighbors. 

Counting down

We are less than 2 months away from closing day. 

It's our second weekend of packing. We've made a bit of a dent. 

I stopped by the house on my way home last night. They were still working on the roofing at 8pm. 

When we went by this afternoon it looked like they were just finishing up. 

Last night these were in the garage and they were gone today.  I'm not sure where they located them.

Scheduling

We met with JP today and thanked him for a beautiful home with a case of Heineken.  The framing crew got a case Corona the other day.

My arch should be in place some time next week.  It looks like the crew is putting the barrier on the roof today.

Next week the schedule is full. Monday and Tuesday we have the heating guys.  Wednesday is the plumbers.  It looks like we'll get to meet with Guardian next Monday.
